If you have a hole in your tooth it means it’s a dental decay (damage of tooth structure) and it needs to be fixed, so that it doesn’t become worse. You can make an appointment to see our dentists to get your filling done.

When the dentist removes the decay or damaged areas of the tooth, there will be some sensation felt. However, you can opt for a local anaesthetic to numb the tooth before treatment. If the hole is shallow the discomfort will be minimal.

We would advise you to get it replaced as soon as you can, especially if you feel sensitive. We can make an appointment for you to get the filling done.

Temporary filling is placed for a short period of time, in between root canal appointments, or just to secure the cavity till a permanent filling is placed. If the entire temporary filling dislodges it may require replacement as soon as possible.

Generally speaking, it takes a few days to a week to get used to the new filling. Besides, during the filling procedure, it is necessary to remove the decayed portion of your tooth before a filling can be placed. Therefore, it is possible that your tooth is slightly sensitive after a filling is placed. These discomforts should diminish as time goes by. If the situation doesn't improve or even worsens then you may come back to see our dentist.

There is no definite life span, usually 5 to 6 years. But if well taken care of, the fillings can last a period of time. Accidental breakage can reduce the life span of fillings. There are many other factors that can alter the life span including oral hygiene and frequency of dental visits. It is recommended that you get your fillings replaced every 15 years.

Fillings start from RM165 and they vary depending on the size and extent of the filling. Once the dentist examines you, he/she will be able to tell you the exact cost for the filling.

Hole, or better known as caries is a breakdown of teeth due to activities of bacteria. The cause of caries is bacterial breakdown of the hard tissues of the teeth. This occurs due to acid made from food debris or sugar on the tooth surface. If a hole occurs once, chances are that even after filling the tooth, holes/caries can occur again around other teeth too.

Dental caries or decay can be prevented by maintaining proper oral hygiene, following a balanced diet and by visiting the dentist regularly.

Areas where the brush cannot reach properly like in between the teeth, or areas such as the biting surfaces and deep grooves on the back teeth are more susceptible to decay or dental caries. To clean areas in between the teeth, flossing should be done regularly. Areas with deep grooves are often covered with sealants to protect them from caries.

Areas in between teeth (inter proximal areas) are harder to clean with a tooth brush. More often than not caries or decay in between teeth is not visible to us and is only seen when an x-ray is taken by the dentist. Hence to keep the areas in between teeth clean and decay free flossing should be done.

Diagnosis of a cavity/caries is not always easy. We depend on a thorough visual examination, X rays and symptoms described be the patient. Routine check-up every 6 months is advisable for a better and clear diagnosis.
